Roaming free for Tata Indicom subscribers in Gujarat
2004-01-26
With the unified licence agreement coming into effect, WLL players can now join the roaming services. Taking the cue, WLL service provider Tata Indicom has announced the launch of its intra-circle roaming service. Subscribers of Tata Indicom in Gujarat can now seamlessly roam on their home number across key towns in the state on Tata Indicom’s mobile network.
This service offers them incoming and outgoing calls within the state at home tariffs. Sending and receiving Short Messaging Service (SMS) will also be offered on the same tariff. New customers desiring intra-circle roaming will be offered the service on activation without any additional deposit and at zero monthly roaming rental charges.
Major towns of Gujarat, such as, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Anand, Vapi, Navsari, Bardoli, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Gandhidham and Daman currently avail of Tata Indicom’s mobile services. Tata Indicom plans to expand its network to some other towns and cities in the state in the near future.
Tata Indicom customers need to prefix the STD code of the destination before dialling outgoing numbers to local or long distance wireline, FWTs or CDMA mobiles. For instance, a customer in Ahmedabad needs to prefix ‘079’ for local calls and ‘011’ to call New Delhi. Local calls will be charged at local rates. The best part of this service is that customers need not have an STD facility to make outgoing calls to other destinations within the state. With this change in dialling plan, the 95-facility is withdrawn. For instance, the prefix for calling Baroda from Ahmedabad from a Tata Indicom mobile will now be ‘0265’ rather than ‘95265’, as it is in the case of landlines.
Speaking about its new roaming services, Jagrut Vyas, chief operating officer, Gujarat Circle, Tata Teleservices Ltd, said, “Tata Indicom is committed to offering its customers the best value service.” He added, “Our value roaming services will certainly help our customers save significantly on their telephone bills while travelling within the state.”
