Top management reshuffle at Hutchison India

2004-01-28 Following the integration of the three erstwhile Essar-owned AirCell Digilink circles (Haryana, Uttar Pradesh-East, and Rajasthan) within the Hutch fold, Hutchison India has recast its top management, according a report in The Economic Times.

Sandip Das and Rajiv Sawhney have been appointed executive directors, while Sanjoy Mukherjee, Sunil Sood and Samuel Selvakumar have been elevated to the position of CEOs at specific circle levels, according to the news report.

Company sources said that Das, as executive director, would be Hutchison’s operational head for the Mumbai, Gujarat, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Chennai circles, while Sawhney will be executive director in charge of Delhi, Punjab and the three AirCell Digilink circles. Both will report to Hutch India MD Asim Ghosh.

Earlier, Das was regional CEO responsible for Hutchison’s western and southern operations, while Sawhney was CEO, Delhi. Mukherjee and Sood, who have been appointed as CEOs for the Gujarat and Kolkata circles, would report directly to the twin Hutch executive directors, while Selvakumar has been given dual charge as CEO, Chennai and Karnataka.

The latest management revamp is aimed at beefing up Hutchison India ’s top deck in the run up to the jumbo consolidation with the Ruias of Essar Tele-Holdings. Once the Essar group’s post-merger stake in the 11-circle Hutch-Essar entity is finalised, the promoters will realign the board of directors. While Asim Ghosh will be on the Hutch-Essar board, it is undecided whether Sawhney and Das will also be part of executive board of the merged entity.
