Play cricket on your mobile phone
2004-04-01
In a cricket crazy country like India, the game is played everywhere – even on the mobile phone. Lead mobile entertainment company, mauj.com recently unveiled a new wireless java game called “Ricky Ponting Cricket 2004”. The Australian cricket captain, who is also its brand ambassador, has played a big role in the development of this game.
Developed in about four months, the game features scenario-based play, realistic sound effects and international teams. To play the game, the user needs to select his team and the opponent team and has to bat his team to victory as per the match scenario. The phone keys are mapped to the corresponding cricket shots in the real cricketing world. The game is available for more than 75 different handsets and distributed worldwide through mobile operators and portals.
Commending the mauj team for its creativity and eye for detail, Ponting says, “The (mobile) game has actually captured the nuances and finer points of the field game.” While addressing the press in Mumbai, Ponting confirmed that the game has been developed under his guidance and that he has lent his actual voice recordings to the game.
Talking about the need of a mobile cricket game, Arun Gupta, head, mauj, says, “Our experience over the last few months has indicated that wireless games based on real sports have a huge demand. After successfully releasing games based on tennis, ski and bowling, cricket was the next frontier.”
He added, “It was especially challenging due to the detailed nature of the sport itself. However, with a lot of hard work and Ricky Ponting’s participation, we have created a truly enjoyable game which we hope will provide lasting entertainment.”
