Dominique Lapierre, best-seller author and recipient of the Padma Bhushan for his humanitarian efforts, launched his historical saga 'A Rainbow in the Night', published by Full Circle, in India at the Indian Habitat Centre in the presence of H.E. Jérôme Bonafont, Ambassador of France to India.
A Rainbow in the Night narrates the bloody, ferocious and fervent saga of the turbulent birth of South Africa, the country that is today known as the Rainbow Nation. Dominique Lapierre famed for authoring books like A Dollar for a Thousand Miles and The City of Joy spent three years researching for the book which traces the history of South Africa from the oppressive Apartheid white regime to the proclamation of Nelson Mandela as the first black President. The book which has already been published in France, Italy and Spain, has sold over 300,000 hardcover copies and acquired rave reviews.
Dominique Lapierre's humanitarian efforts with Mother Teresa in the slums of Calcutta have brought him much international acclaim and recognition. He was recently in his beloved 'City of Joy' to celebrate the 75,000 tuberculosis patient cured at his mega medical centre of Bhangar and the 10,000th child who has learnt to read and write in one of the schools built with the resources of his publishing royalties.
