This Republic Day, HISTORY TV18 showcases some lesser known anecdotes related to India’s freedom struggle

On the 66th anniversary of the Republic of India, HISTORY TV18 brings to audiences a fascinating line-up of three shows from 12:00PM to 7:00PM; discover some fascinating truths about a nation at the crossroads of history and progress, an empire that conquered it and the man who defied it. While ‘Gandhi’ explores the journey of the ‘Father of our Nation’ from Mohandas to Mahatma, ‘India on Four Wheels’ takes viewers on a ride through the chaotic cities and rural bywaters of our country. Completing the line-up is ‘The Birth of Empire: The East India Company’, a show that throws light on the greatest enterprise of the time.

Hosted by renowned journalist Mishal Husain, Gandhi is the first definitive series on the life of the Mahatma. This one-of-a-kind series showcases the unknown sides of the Indian Freedom struggle from 12PM to 3PM. It examines his relationship with his wife and his role on the path to Indian independence. Mishal Husain sets out to reveal the other side of India's revered messiah. This series charts Gandhi's Establishment beginnings, his move into politics and his campaign to bring independence to India.

Justin Rowlett and Anita Rani join the chaos of India on an exciting road trip across the country, to uncover the truth behind the fad of growing demand for cars as a status symbol and sign of social development in the country. Whether it’s breaking down by the side of the road, facing suicidal peacocks or tasting luxury in a Maharaja’s vintage Rolls Royce, India on Four Wheels takes you on a surprising journey through a country on the move from 3PM to 5PM.

The Birth of Empire: The East India Company, airing from 5PM to 7PM, is a revelatory series on the first and greatest multi-national enterprise and how the behemoth, the East India Company grew into an imperial power. Dan Snow sets out to discover the motives of those who set up the company at the beginning of the seventeenth century and how it grew to become so powerful. He traces the rise and eventual decline of this company as it became a source of corruption and greed.
