Noida, May 14, 2018

The NewsX-CNX Exit Poll projections, as depicted by NewsX, NewsX HD and NewsX Kannada, for the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018 indicate that BJP may successfully dethrone the ruling Congress party in the much-anticipated assembly elections in the state. The ruling Congress and the BJP were the main contenders for power in these elections, with former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda's JDS expected to play the kingmaker.

Karnataka elections have been closely-watched and bitterly fought political battle this year as it is being seen as an acid test for Congress President Rahul Gandhi's leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 2019 Lok Sabha pitch.

NewsX-CNX Exit Poll for the Karnataka Elections 2018 forecasts that the BJP is set to bag 102 to 110 of 222 seats (tally in 2013 – 40), thereby fortifying its position yet again in the state, following a high-energy election campaign that saw several charges and counter-charges flying in all directions. The exit poll also indicates that Congress is estimated to bag 72 to 78 seats, a visible decline from the 2013 elections, which it had won by registering 122 seats.

JDS+ is expected to get around 35 to 39 seats while Others in the state are likely to bag around 3 to 5 seats as against the 22 seats they had won in 2013.

The projected dent in the Congress vote share is reflective of an increase in faith of the electorate in the BJP, a trend that does not bode well for the Congress leadership when viewed in the context of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections next year.
