A newspaper titled Sambad Akhon will hit the newsstands in Kolkata on July 25. The daily was officially unveiled by Angel Cinevision and Media, a division of Angel Agritech Group of Companies, which is based in Kolkata. The newspaper was launched by Mukul Roy, railway minister of India.
The Bengali newspaper has been launched with an initial print run of one lakh copies and has a cover price of Rs 2 per copy. It is the maiden project of Angel Cinevision and Media; the group plans to launch a Bengali movie after this.
The Kolkata edition will also be circulated in Delhi, Mumbai, Agartala, Guwahati and Silchar.
Sambad Akhon will have 10 main pages and an eight-page daily supplement. Apart from regular news reportage, the supplement distributed along with the newspaper will focus on a range of topics such as literature, astrology, lifestyle, movies, health, travel, education and entertainment. On Sundays, the newspaper will carry a magazine that will have current affairs and infotainment-related content.
Talking about the launch, Sumantra Banerjee, chief executive officer, Sambad Akhon, says, "This new publication will give Kolkata a new experience in the print industry. We strongly believe that a newspaper has the capability to compel positive transformation in the social order."
The launch function of the newspaper was also attended by Arup Roy, MIC, agriculture marketing; Rachpal Singh, tourism minister; Pirjada Toha Siddique, Furfura Sharif ; and Madan Mitra, minister of state for sports, among others.
Commenting on the new publication, Sk. Hasibul Haque, editor, Sambad Akhon, says, "Today, Bengali newspaper readers are very mindful when it comes to choosing their newspaper. We will meet their requirements by providing infotainment and unbiased news."
In an official communiqué, Sk Najibulla, publisher, Sambad Akhon, says, "The content of Sambad Akhon will attract readers across all the age groups."
