AIR appoints R Venkateswarlu as director general

Venkateswarlu replaces Leela Dhar Mandloi, who has retired from Prasar Bharati after 37 years.

All India Radio, officially known as Akashvani, has appointed R Venkateswarlu as director general.

Venkateswarlu replaces Leela Dhar Manloi, who retired from Prasar Bharati after 37 years of service.

Till recently, Venkateswarlu was posted as additional director general (South zone), supervising all India radio stations, Doordarshan Kendras and marketing divisions in the South Zone. In his new role, he will exercise full financial and administrative powers of the post of director general of All India Radio.

The office order of Prasar Bharati, signed by its director (Pers) Arvind Kumar, states, "With the approval of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting conveyed vide letter No. A-50013/197/2013- BAP dated 31.10.2013, Shri R Venkateswarlu, additional director general (programme), South Zone, is entrusted with the current duty charge of the post of director general of All India Radio with effect from 01.11.2013, till the date of joining of a regular incumbent or the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever event occurs earlier."

Vekateswarlu has 35 years of mass-media experience in Indian information service, AIR, Doordarshan and Prasar Bharati Secretariat and also administrative, personnel and financial management of AIR and Doordarshan networks.
