General Motors India today launched the much awaited Chevrolet Aveo U-VA at a function presided over by its President and Managing Director, Mr. Rajeev Chaba.
With its combination of modern Italian design, generous list of features and roomy interiors, the stylish and incredibly spacious five-door premium hatchback sets a new benchmark in its segment in terms of product attributes. It will go on sale at Chevrolet retailers across India by next week.
“The Aveo U-VA is a global product sold in Europe, North America and other parts of Asia Pacific,” said Chaba. “It has been re-engineered for India based on extensive testing done across the country in order to meet the specific needs of local consumers as well as local driving conditions. To meet local preferences some parts of the vehicle were redesigned, like for example the ground clearance was increased to 188 mm, suspension reinforced, air conditioning improved and full chrome headlamps were developed exclusively for India.”
The Aveo U-VA shares a common platform with the Chevrolet Aveo, which was introduced in India earlier this year. Both the cars have wheelbases of 2,480 mm, which is the best in class for the Aveo U-VA. The two cars also share some mechanical components. As a hatchback, the Aveo U-VA provides incredible space, different exterior and interior styling, with a sporty feel, that makes it stand out against competition in the premium hatchback segment in every respect.
The Aveo U-VA has received a number of international awards such as “Best Car for the Bucks” from forbes.com, “Inter-American Car of the Year” from the Inter-American Federation of Automotive Journalists, “Most Well-Received Small Car” from News Express and Sino Trust, and “Most Influential Car of the Year” from the China Mainstream Media Association.
SPORTY STYLING COURTESY OF GIUGIARO – ‘A DEFINITE HEAD TURNER’
The Chevrolet Aveo U-VA’s youthful and sporty styling is courtesy of Italdesign, the famed studio in Turin, Italy, founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Jewelled-element headlamps with full chrome bezels and a strong horizontal grille with a chrome centre bar and a diamond mesh insert dominate the front view. Its long wheelbase with short overhangs, prominent feature lines on the sides that seem to almost cut across the vehicle and powerful-looking wheel arches combine to create a dynamic side view. The overall side design looks more formal as a result of its six-window styling, which also improves all-around visibility from inside.
Its relatively low height of 1,495 mm underlines the dynamism of this new vehicle, a characteristic that is also expressed in its sporty design. Circular-theme tail lamps with jeweled elements complete the sporty look. As its celebrated designer pointed out, “Such lights decorate a car the way a beautiful watch or a special ring adorns a person with jewels. Front and rear lamps have now progressed from purely functional elements into unique aesthetic details.” This makes the Aveo U-VA the practical choice for young people with active and vigorous lifestyles.
INTERIORS – ‘YOUTHFUL AND CONTEMPORARY’
The Chevrolet Aveo U-VA’s youthful design treatment continues into the interior. The fun and youth-oriented approach is highlighted by the use of circular motifs that are repeated on door trims and the instrument panel. The color scheme is bright grey, which makes the interior look fresh and spacious. The new-age carbon fiber finish on the power window switches and door trim adds a further touch of class to the Aveo U-VA’s interior.
COMFORT & SPACE – ‘INCREDIBLY SPACIOUS’
With a class-leading wheelbase and overall length, the Aveo U-VA is incredibly spacious. It can seat five adults comfortably thanks to its generous legroom and shoulder room. There are plenty of storage locations in the cabin such as cup holders in the front centre console that are flexible and can take cups of various sizes, a cup holder towards the rear of the floor console for rear occupants, dual storage areas on the instrument panel, a deposit box in the centre console and a ticket clip in the driver's sun visor.
A great deal of attention has been paid to passenger comfort and the smallest of details. Double folding rear seats with a 40:60 split backrest on the top-end LT model provide amazing flexibility. A rear windscreen wiper and defogger, 14-inch alloy wheels, a leather gear knob, front fog lamps, and a digital clock are just a few of the amenities offered in the LT model.
RESPONSIVE & EFFICIENT POWERTRAIN – ‘THE IDEAL CITY CAR’
The Aveo U-VA’s 1.2-liter petrol engine delivers 76 ps of peak power and healthy torque of 110 Nm. The Aveo U-VA delivers class-leading fuel efficiency with excellent drivability. This has been achieved by recalibrating the Engine Management system and gear ratio combination for Indian fuel, driving habits and traffic conditions.

ADVANCED, PROVEN SAFETY – ‘SECURE’
GM engineers succeeded in providing the Aveo U-VA exceptionally high torsional rigidity and crash stability to its unibody design through the use of more than 46 percent high-strength and extra-high-strength steel. These are primarily concentrated in critical underbody sections to create a solid structure. The monocoque chassis also has tailor-welded blanks, which are generally found only in premium segment cars. The body structure forms a passenger compartment safety cage that runs from the front door hinge pillars to the A-pillars to the roof rail, back to the reinforced B-pillar and C-pillar and includes the rocker panels.
The chassis was designed to deliver a more dynamic and precise feel, along with straight line and cornering stability on all road types and conditions with balanced grip. Customers have a choice of a proven Antilock Braking System (ABS), which is available as an option on the LT model. A driver’s side air bag will be available within a few months of launch. The car also features 2.5-mph impact-proof front and rear bumpers, which are a boon in urban traffic in which minor collisions are unavoidable. The chassis of the Aveo U-VA has undergone rigorous validation, notching up nearly 2 million km of testing. In combination with its torsion-resistant body, this ensures excellent handling and a high level of active safety.
WARRANTY, SERVICE HOLIDAY AND MAINTENANCE – ‘PEACE OF MIND’
The Chevrolet Aveo U-VA comes with a Three-year/1,00,000-km standard warranty and a service interval of 5,000 km or six months (whichever comes first).
As part of the Chevrolet India Revolution, the Aveo U-VA is the third new Chevrolet product to enter the market this year. It follows the successful launches of the Aveo sedan and SRV premium sportsback. Besides expanding its line-up of vehicles, GM India has also expanded its dealership network from 76 to 95 sales points this year. In addition, one new parts distribution centre has also been set up this year in Maharashtra to supplement the two original centres in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. GM also continues the extensive localization of its product line-up to reduce the price of key components and reduce the cost of ownership.
