Jagran Prakashan, which publishes India's number one daily Dainik Jagran, is launching a tabloid, Junior Jagran. & #BANNER1 & # The upcoming fortnightly, aimed at the age group of 13-20 years, will be initially launched in Punjab and Chandigarh on October 29. Subsequently, the tabloid will be launched in other markets where Dainik Jagran has a presence.
The 16-page tabloid will be a bilingual, published mainly in Hindi with two pages of content in English.
This all-colour fortnightly will be distributed with the main issue of Dainik Jagran on alternate Fridays. Apart from this initiative, the publication is also looking forward to additional sales through direct distribution in schools and colleges.
Out of the 16 pages of Junior Jagran, while 12 pages will be identical for all editions (written and edited by Junior Jagran Bureau), four pages will have its own city-wise localised content. These four pages will have content written by student readers of Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Bhatinda, Patiala and Amritsar.
Sanjay Gupta, CEO, Dainik Jagran, says, "While these four-pages will help us to increase our interaction with potential readers, the new product will also replace the school magazines, which are being increasingly phased out. Junior Jagran will eventually become a forum where students can express their thought and talent."
"Earlier, school magazines were a common feature and well supported by the school authorities. But now, these have become obsolete in most prominent schools. Paucity of funds and lack of interest of school management in publishing school magazines have resulted in closing down of this medium," Gupta adds.
Out of the four pages, which are dedicated for local news of five cities, two pages will have news on campus activities of different schools and colleges. Two reporters (called Junior Jagran correspondents) from each school will be nominated by the Junior Jagran Bureau, who will report on campus activities.
The remaining 12 pages will cover varied subjects such as lifestyle, information technology, Internet trends, sports, travel and tourism, general knowledge, news from Punjab etc, which are of great interest for the young readers. Each issue will also carry an interview with a young achiever. Contests will also be a major part of the content to maintain the interest among the readers.
Talking about the advertisers for the new publication, Gupta says, "Junior Jagran will allow the advertisers to cater to readers spread across Punjab. This will be in addition to the local readers in their respective cities."
