Rana Barua of Triton joins Bates Mumbai as V-P

Rana Barua, who was vice-president - brand services at Triton Communications, is joining Bates Mumbai as a vice-president. Barua will be reporting to J S Mani, executive president, Bates Mumbai.

Barua, whose appointment comes into effect on April 1, 2005, will be responsible for the branch's organic growth and generating new business in addition to handling day-to-day activities at the office.

Meanwhile, Mani moves on to higher responsibilities, though he continues to oversee the Mumbai office. The nature of Mani's new responsibilities is not clear at the moment, but Subhash Kamath, CEO, Bates India, assures that he will spell that out at the right moment.

Talking about Barua's appointment, Kamath says, “I am very excited to have Rana joining us. He is a fantastic team player. As far as his mandate is concerned, his task is to strengthen the team, provide strategic solutions and of course, grow the branch.”

Barua too is thrilled about his assignment at Bates. “Subhash is a great leader and I am looking forward to be a part of his team. Moreover, Bates is a WPP agency and nothing is bigger than WPP in India. It is backed by a sound network, systems and processes. I am very happy to be part of this network..”

Barua, who has always worked with the top 10 agencies, joined Triton Communications for the sheer challenge it offered. “Triton, to me, was an opportunity to push the envelope a bit more. And, I must say the experience was very fulfilling. Working with directors - Ali Merchant and Munawar Syed was most satisfying and a great learning experience.”

Though Barua's stint at Triton was as short as six months, he says it has been pretty productive. Prior to joining Triton, Barua was with Rediffusion DY&R, Mumbai, as its client services director. He has ten years of advertising experience having done time with agencies such as JWT, O&M, Lowe and McCann-Erickson.
