Hyundai India June sales down at 6,116 units

Hyundai Motor India Limited, the wholly-owned subsidiary of South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor Company, said on Monday that it has sold 6,116 cars in June.

Hyundai Motor India Limited, the wholly-owned subsidiary of South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor Company, said on Monday that it has sold 6,116 cars in June. That means its June sales are down by 1,445 units compared with its sales in May this year.

However, it is up 1,482 units compared with 4,634 that it sold in the same month last year. Hyundai's June 2000 sales included included 5,011 small Santro models and 1,105 mid-sized Accents.

To put things into perspective, the company sold 7,561 cars in May, up from 7,305 in April. January-June sales totaled 45,513, up from 21,884 a year earlier.

The Indian unit of the of South Korean carmaker has set a sales target of 78,000 cars for the year 2000. This is around 18,000 cars more than the 60,321units it sold in 1999. Hyundai Motors entered the Indian market with the launch of its small Santro model in October 1998. Until June 30, 2000 it had sold 103,568 Santros and 10,726 Accents.
