In it’s recently concluded annual general meeting in Mumbai, the International Advertising Association (IAA) has elected Sam Balsara president for 2005-06. Balsara is chairman and managing director, Madison Communications. Pheroza Bilimoria, former president of IAA, now serves on the IAA World Board and is a special invitee with the India Chapter.

The new managing committee also includes Pradeep Guha (vice-president), Mukul Upadhyaya (honorary secretary), Ashok Nerkar (honorary treasurer), MG Parameswaran (member), Goutam Rakshit (member), Ramesh Narayan (member), Ishan Raina (member), Hormusji Cama (coopted member), Roger CB Pereira (special invitee) and Pheroza Bilimoria (special invitee).

Balsara says “The IAA India Chapter needs to identify the unique and distinct role that it can play in the advertising and marketing fraternity, especially with the presence of such strong industry associations like the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI), Indian Newspapers Society (INS) and Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) and clubs like The Advertising Club, Bombay. Certainly, it will be successful in carving a niche for itself in the area of global practices, exploiting its global reach across 93 countries and its access to 6,000 key decision makers.”

The India Chapter of the IAA was initiated over 20 years ago with a view to fostering a healthy environment for the growth of globalisation in the communications industry. The India Chapter currently has a membership of around 40.

The IAA World Congress will be held in Dubai on March 20-23, 2006, and the IAA, India Chapter, hopes to play a key role in taking a large delegation from India there. The Dubai Chapter, which is one of the largest IAA chapters, has lined up extremely rich fare in terms of global speakers and relevant topics. So, it will give Indian professionals an opportunity to check out the opportunities available in Dubai.
