Bachchan magic on SaharaOne

The channel is trying to ride high on Bachchan magic with a special show, Shaam-e-Bachchan, where Amitabh will recite some of his father’s poems

Amitabh Bachchan is synonymous with high TVRs. News channels know that very well. As do general entertainment channels. That’s probably why SaharaOne is trying to ride high on Bachchan magic.

On December 17, the channel has lined up a special show – Shaam-E-Bachchan – to celebrate the birth anniversary of renowned Hindi poet and Amitabh’s father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan. The main attraction of this 60-minute show will be the recitation of Bachchan Sr’s poems by Amitabh and other accomplished Hindi poets.

Purnendu Bose, COO, SaharaOne, says, “Apart from the birth anniversary of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, this week is also significant for millions of Amitabh Bachchan fans, as Big B is slated to get discharged from the hospital.”

On December 18, the channel will feature the latest Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan starrer, ‘Sarkaar’.

Bose adds, “The telecast date for ‘Sarkaar’ was planned more than a month ago for December 18. This also happened to be Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s birth anniversary. We planned to club these two properties to offer our viewers a unique weekend experience.”

SaharaOne is also to launch a game show called ‘Mission Ek Crore’ by March 2006. The show will mark the debut of actor Sanjay Dutt on television.

Talking about the channel’s broader plans for 2006, Bose says, “We have taken a conscious decision to move away from shows that deal with inane ‘saas-bahu’ conflicts to ones that narrate the stories of grit and tenacity that we see in women all around us every day. This year, we launched seven shows that revolve around the various facets of Indian women. We are ready to experiment, we are trying to break away from the clutter and our strategy will continue in 2006 in all our upcoming shows.”
