Purohit comes to Walt Disney with 12 years of highly diverse work experience in the publishing industry. In his last assignment, he headed the Indian subsidiary of Encyclopaedia Britannica. Purohit will report to Rajat Jain, managing director, Disney India.

Talking about this development, Jain says, “The size of the publishing business in India can go up to several crores of rupees – this market is growing at a rate of 30 per cent per annum. As a part of its global expansion, India is an important market for Disney. Purohit’s expertise, both in children’s retail and book space, will be crucial to our publishing business. With this development, our publishing business in India will optimise the brand’s presence in the market with a renewed consumer focus.”

Purohit will shoulder the responsibility of strategic growth and expansion of the company’s publishing business in India. He will spearhead new product launches and also implement the marketing and promotions programme with a long-term vision for the business. He will work closely with key retailers and licensees to increase the retail visibility of Disney’s publishing portfolio.

Purohit is credited with being one of the youngest heads of a subsidiary company of Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc. In his earlier assignments, too, he has played important roles during his stints at Business Standard Ltd and Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd (The Times of India Group).
