ESPN STAR Sports & #BANNER1 & # has once again won the telecast rights to Europe's premier football league, the UEFA Champions League, for several of its major territories in Asia. The new three-year agreement ensures that both ESPN and STAR Sports will continue to televise the property till the 2008-09 season.
According to Jamie Davis, managing director, ESPN STAR Sports, "This new multi-year commitment will ensure that ESPN STAR Sports can invest more resources to further develop the UEFA Champions League brand and promote it to fans across Asia. Our plans to enhance the broadcast and interactivity of the matches will provide the audience with coverage the likes of which they have never seen before."
Under the terms of the new deal, ESPN STAR Sports will enjoy exclusive live broadcast rights for the UEFA Champions League in Hong Kong and China and also retain exclusive cable and satellite rights across the network's South East and North Asian territories. This landmark agreement has also been expanded to include live Internet and broadband rights.
The event marks the continuation of a 13-year partnership between ESPN STAR Sports and UEFA.
For the record, ESPN STAR Sports has been telecasting the English Premier League, FA Cup and the England Team home matches; it also holds the telecast rights for the 2006 World Cup for the Indian subcontinent.
