The Ad Club, Madras, kicked off its golden jubilee celebrations with the Living Legends Night. At a function held at Le Royal Meridien, Chennai, six outstanding creative people who have left their indelible prints on the advertising world in the last few decades were honoured.

The recipients of the awards were Mohammed Khan of Nexus Equity, Piyush Pandey of O&M, Ravi Deshpande of Contract Advertising, Rajiv Menon, ace cinematographer and ad film producer,

Alyque Padamsee, former CEO of Lintas, and Chris D’Rozario, who created a stir in the 1980s while he was with Trikaya, Mumbai. D’Rozario is now with JWT in New York and was honoured in absentia.

The presentation consisted of a citation and a special memento, which were given away by

the members of the Advisory Council of the celebrations, Ramraj, MD of Sify, SR Ayer, former CEO of O&M, SK Swamy, CEO of RK Swamy/BBDO and president of the Advertising Agencies Association of India, and Niteen Bhagwath, CEO of Interface Communications. The other members of the Advisory Council, including V Narayanan, former CEO of Ponds, were also present at the function.

RV Rajan, chairman of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations Committee, said, “It’s a happy coincidence that the Ad Club, Madras, is celebrating its golden jubilee in a year when the advertising business in general and more so in Chennai is witnessing an unprecedented boom because of the retail explosion and the IT industry’s phenomenal growth.”

He added, “A series of events have been planned not only to celebrate the golden jubilee year in a fitting manner, but also to get the focus of the marketing and advertising world on the Ad Club, Madras, and its activities.”

Apart from the Living Legends Night, other events planned to celebrate the golden jubilee include a commemoration oration by Alyque Padamsee on April 7, 2006. A special Media Management Course will be kicked off in July in association with MICA. A two-day Golden Jubilee Conference will take place in September and will end with a grand Retrospective Nite. The surplus from all the events will be used to establish the Ad Club Golden Jubilee Memorial Hall, where future club meets can be held.

The Ad Club, Madras, was inaugurated by CR Srinivas, the then editor of ‘Swadeshamitra Daily’, with just 22 members. The club boasts of over 1,000 members today. Among its many praiseworthy activities are the prestigious Annual Awards, which the club has been giving out for the last 25 years, to work from all the four southern states of India.
