Zoom to have its own style awards

The Zoom Glam Awards will be on the lines of the MTV Style Awards and will recognise celebrities who stand out for their style and panache

Zoom is planning to have its own version of style awards. The Zoom Glam Awards will be on the same lines as the MTV Style Awards and will recognise celebrities who stand out for their style and panache.

However, MK Anand, national sales head, Zoom, defends the plans, saying, “If our competitor’s event is a mug of beer, ours is a glass of wine. What I mean is that we do not see fashion from the masses’ perspective.”

According to Anand, the idea behind the awards ceremony is to extend the brands, Zoom, and ‘Page 3’, one of the most popular shows on the channel. The different categories for the awards include ‘Politician with Panache’, ‘Glam Fashion Designer’, ‘Glam Party Host’, ‘Stylish Businessman’ and ‘Most Flamboyant Actor.’

He adds, “The whole affair will be a tuxedo activity, where we will choose the topmost from around 4,000 high-end people.”

Anand further says, “This is the right time to have an awards ceremony. If we had done something earlier, people might have rebuked us for being frivolous and immature. But now, having been in the business for two years, we have established ourselves as a circuit commentator on social glamour.”

The channel also has special plans for its loyal viewers. It plans to have a special pre-event show, ‘The Curtain Raiser’, on May 7, which will have elements like ‘Behind the Scenes’ and ‘Red Carpet’. The final show, one hour in length, will be telecast on May 14. The length of ‘The Curtain Raiser’ will be decided on the basis of content.
