Dish TV will now have all The One Alliance channels

ish TV subscribers will now get to watch channels such as SET, SET Max, Discovery Channel, Ten Sports, SAB, Discovery Travel & Living, AXN, Animax, MTV, SET Pix, Animal Planet and Nick

The One Alliance, the distribution arm of SET (Sony Entertainment Television) India and Discovery Networks, has agreed to provide content to Zee’s DTH (direct to home) television platform.

With this, DTH subscribers will now get to watch channels such as SET, SET Max, Discovery Channel, Ten Sports, SAB, Discovery Travel & Living, AXN, Animax, MTV, SET Pix, Animal Planet and Nick.

For Dish TV, this deal will be crucial in boosting sales; many subscribers stayed away from it because it did not have the SET India and STAR India channels on its platform. But now, with The One Alliance channels on board, the DTH provider will certainly have an edge over its competitors.

Currently, Dish TV boasts of a customer base of about one million with more than 120 channels across the country in its first year of operation.

The One Alliance channels will be available to customers for an additional fee.

“Dish TV will be able to give its customers a wide range of entertainment because of these new additions to its list,” says Sunil Khanna, CEO, Dish TV.

Dish TV will pay The One Alliance a share of the revenue, depending on the number of subscriptions it gets. Khanna declined to reveal further details on this.

Dish TV is hoping to consolidate its customer base in the metros with a growth rate of 50 per cent in the next one year. But with the STAR India channels still not available on the network, this won’t be an easy task.

However, Khanna says, “If a broadcaster doesn’t have its channels on our network, then that is its loss, not ours.”

The One Alliance is a joint venture between SET India Pvt. Ltd and Discovery Communications India. The company was set up in April 2002. Today, the company distributes 15 leading channels under the brand name of The One Alliance to over 61 million homes spread over 4,000 cities and towns across India.
