Cartoon Network speaks Tamil

Cartoon Network has plans to increase its focus on regional audiences, especially in the South. On the cards are animation films and programmes dubbed in Tamil

Cartoon Network has several plans to consolidate its regional audience base. The popular kids’ entertainment channel will premiere two famous animation films dubbed in Tamil for its audience in Tamil Nadu.

‘The Legend of Buddha’ and ‘Pandavas: The Five Warriors’, produced by Chennai based Pentamedia Graphics Ltd, will be featured on November 5 and 19 at 11am on Cartoon Network.

This is not the first time that Cartoon Network is undertaking such an initiative. In the past, ‘Harry Potter – Chamber of Secrets’ was also dubbed in Tamil.

Along with these films, some programmes such as ‘Baby Looney Tunes’, ‘Robotboy’, ‘Franklin’, ‘Harry and His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs’, ‘Dragon Tales’, ‘Bob the Builder – Project Build It’, ‘Krypto The Super Dog’, ‘Richie Rich’, ‘The Popeye Show’, ‘Transformers Cybertron’ and ‘Dexter’s Laboratory’ will also be aired in Tamil on Cartoon Network.

Monica Tata, vice-president, advertising sales and networks, India and South Asia, Turner International India, says, “This initiative is aimed at increasing our reach in the South. Tamil Nadu is the first and stronger step toward achieving this.”

The channel will adopt the same strategy in the other areas of South India soon, she said.
