Rajshri & #BANNER1 & # Media, the digital media and entertainment arm of the Rajshri Group, has launched the online portal, rajshri.com. The portal will feature premium Indian video content and has been designed specially for international consumers who are technology savvy and fond of Hindi film entertainment.
Rajjat A Barjatya, managing director, Rajshri Media, explains that while there are approximately 25 million NRIs (non-resident Indians) all over the world, it becomes difficult for Indian producers to target them collectively. A growing fondness for Indian movies has been found among these NRIs and rajshri.com will be the first of its kind from the Indian domain to offer this segment Indian video content.
The content on the portal will consist of full-length feature films. The list of offer includes titles such as 'Phir Hera Pheri', 'Hera Pheri', 'Amar Akbar Anthony', 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye', 'Love in Tokyo' and 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun'. Currently, the portal has a stock of 300 Indian movies with more than 3,000 hours of video content across multiple genres, which is available for streaming and downloading at zero cost. The portal will also feature some non-film content, which will include videos, concerts, humour clips, short films and documentaries.
Rajjat A BarjatyaMost of the content on the website will be free, apart from the new releases. Currently, the only film that is available for download at a price is Sooraj R Barjatya's 'Vivah'. The movie can be readily downloaded at a price of US$9.99 on the day of its worldwide theatrical release, November 10, 2006.
To protect the rights of the producers, consumers can stream or download the movie on their PCs with a limited 72-hour licence. The downloaded file will automatically disintegrate after this specified time span. Depending on the speed of broadband connectivity, the movie can be streamed in a high or low bandwidth version.
Rajjat A Barjatya says, "The portal will earn its revenue mainly from the consumers and the advertisers. As the website has just been launched, it's too early to comment on the kind of revenue figures we are expecting. With easy access to the Internet, we will be instantly accessible to interested consumers across the world. We will mark a new era in the distribution and monetisation of Indian entertainment content. Using digital technology, the aim of the portal is to become a benchmark for the global Indian community and entertain and enrich their lives with Indian culture and heritage.
Besides re-purposing content for mobile phones, iPods and other digital devices, features such as comprehensive sections on astrology, numerology, Indian food and spirituality will be added to the portal to enrich the content on a regular basis.
