Yatra gets Nikhil Rungta from McCann

Rungta completes a full circle and returns to marketing as head of marketing at Yatra Online after a successful stint at McCann

Nikhil Rungta, director, client services, McCann-Erickson, has gone back to his first love, marketing. He has joined Yatra Online as head of marketing.

Rungta started his career as a product manager with Shaw Wallace, handling beer brands Royal Challenge and Haywards 5000. Later, he shifted to advertising. Through his career span, he has worked with agencies such as Dhar & Hoon and Contract; he spent around four years at the latter.

His last assignment was with McCann, where he spent around three years. Some of the brands that he has worked on at McCann Erickson are Microsoft Xbox 360, MasterCard International, HP Compaq and Dabur. In fact, he was responsible for the launch of the Xbox 360 in India and was instrumental in the development of an India specific communication strategy for MasterCard and HP Compaq.

Rungta’s mandate will now be to build the Yatra Online brand. He will be responsible for all online and offline marketing initiatives for the travel portal and head a team creating strategies to achieve its business objectives.

Rungta says, “I am a marketing person at the core of my heart. I believe I have come full circle as I started my career as a marketing person.”

On his role at Yatra Online, Rungta adds, “This particular space of travel portal is being talked about a lot. Being a starter, the challenges for Yatra will be much bigger. This is a new thing and the opportunities to establish a brand like this will be many. I am here to start the brand and take it higher. We will take up various initiatives, mostly online marketing, to push Yatra Online as a brand.”

Rungta is an MBA in marketing and international business from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, and has done his BSc from Hindu College, Delhi University.
