Ravi Deshpande on the Film Jury for Cannes Lions 2007

Last year, Deshpande judged The One Show held in New York and the Malaysian Kancil Awards. He was also a judge at the recent Dubai Lynx Awards, 2007

Ravi Deshpande, chief creative officer, Contract Advertising, has been invited to be part of the Film Jury for the 54th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. The festival will be held from June 17-23, 2007, in Cannes, France. Deshpande will judge the film entries along with 21 others invited from across the world.

Last year, Deshpande judged The One Show held in New York and the Malaysian Kancil Awards. He was also a judge at the recent Dubai Lynx Awards, 2007.

This is the first time Deshpande will be on the Cannes jury.

“Entries at Cannes are judged for their sensibility and simplicity,” he says. “Films are considered to be the most competitive and prestigious category at the Cannes festivals and entries are judged by the most opinionated and critical advertising minds from all over the world.”

Terry Savage is the executive chairman for the festival and Bob Scarpelli, chairman and chief creative officer, DDB Worldwide, will chair the Film and Press juries. The film entries will be judged from June 17 and the winners will be announced on the evening of June 23.

The judging process for the entries in the Press category will start on June 17and the winners will be revealed on the evening of June 20.

Every year, the Cannes Lions festival receives more than 25,000 entries across media. The festival is one of the largest gatherings of its kind; the 10,000 visitors include advertising professionals and advertisers from across the world.
