Shailesh Rao appointed MD for Google India

Based in the Capital, Rao’s mandate will be to manage Google’s domestic business and strategic partnerships

Google, the popular search engine, has roped in Shailesh Rao as managing director, sales and operations, for Google India. Rao is an old hand, having served as director at the company’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, for two years.

Based in the Capital, Rao’s mandate will be to manage Google’s domestic business and strategic partnerships. In his previous role, he was responsible for growing Google’s Local Search business globally, driving Google’s third party channel programmes and managing new content partnership programmes worldwide.

“We have received a very encouraging response from users in India and Rao’s appointment will be instrumental during this period of growth and development. As we continue to invest in India, he shall play an important role in enhancing our relationships with the industry and the government,” says Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, vice-president, Asia Pacific and Latin America, Google Inc.

Rao has completed his BA with honours from the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a BS degree from the Wharton School with a concentration in finance, and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.

"I am extremely privileged to join Google India at a time when the region is experiencing a tremendous amount of growth and when I can assist the company make an impact,” says Rao.

Prior to his stint with Google, Rao was vice-president, Yodlee, where he was in charge of managing all aspects of product and corporate development for Yodlee’s core products and technology.
