Last week publications and the service industry raced ahead of the household durables manufacturers to tempt consumers.

The Hindustan Times had a very lucrative offer for readers. On subscribing to The Hindustan Times publication, readers had a chance to win exciting prizes that included one Kelvinator refrigerator, one free travel package for a couple, two diamond rings, 10 Fuji Cameras, 25 Maxima Watches. The offer was valid only in Delhi. On buying the Filmfare February issue, the Filmfare magazine was giving one free sample of Odonil Hanger. This offer was valid in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Baroda, Delhi and the states of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and all states of Eastern, Northern and North-East India.

Fujicolor too had a great offer. Fujifilm had organised a Republic Day Photo Contest. On shooting anything that reflected the spirit of our Republic and on developing the photo on Fujicolor Paper, the contestant had the chance to win 50 smart short II deluxe cameras. The photographs were to be to send to Fujicolor before February 7, 2001. The contest was in Delhi only. Kodak was giving a Kodak film worth Rs. 270 free on buying a Kodak KB 10 camera. This offer was valid only in select outlets in Bangalore.

Daewoo had the Daewoo Xchange offer. On exchanging old refrigerator for a new Daewoo refrigerator the company was giving 0 per cent finance for up to 25 months and up to Rs 8,000 off on an old refrigerator. This scheme was valid only in select cities till Febuary 15. Philips was giving a discount of Rs 200 on exchanging an old iron for a brand new Philips steam iron. This offer is valid in Mumbai and Pune till Febuary 28, 2001.

Whirlpool had a double value offer for the consumers. Firstly, the consumer had to pay only Rs 450 per month as instalments on buying Whirlpool Quick-Chill refrigerator. Secondly, along with the purchase, the company was giving an attractive exchange facility. This offer was valid only in Kolkata. Symphony had a Chappar Phaad Ke offer. On buying a Symphony Kaizen Ultra air cooler worth Rs 8,990 the company was giving a BPL colour television free. This offer was valid for a limited period in Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal, NE states, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Steelux was offering a discount of up to Rs 1,250 on the purchase of a Steelux phosphate coated almirah. This offer was with select dealers in Calcutta, for a limited period only.

Foods and beverages companies had some interesting offers as well. With every 1 litre pack of Gemini refined sunflower oil, the company was giving 90 gm Lehar aloo bhujia free. This promo was valid in select cities only and till stocks lasted. Harvest Gold, with every Harvest Gold 800 gm bread was giving one packet of two sweet buns free. The offer was valid in NCR of Delhi till February 2, or till stocks last. With every 200 gm pack of Parle Marie Choice, the consumer was given a free Parle-G. On returning four empty 1 kg. packs of Tata Salt the consumer had the chance to win many prizes. The first prize was 1 kg of gold, two second prizes that included 500 gm of gold each, three third prizes included 250 gm of gold each and 10 fourth prizes of 100 gm of gold each. The offer is valid till February 28, 2001.

Pizza Hut had a yum-yum offer. On exchanging four stickered flip-caps of 1 litre Tropicana packs, the buyer could have had a pizza worth Rs. 75 free. This offer is valid till March 10, 2001 in Delhi. Kinley in a special introductory price was giving the Kinley 500 ml pure drinking water for Rs 4. This offer was valid only in Delhi.

Service companies were vying to serve the consumer. Citibank was giving a 10 per cent off all on purchases. The company was also giving a chance to win two free tickets to Kuala Lumpur if the consumer shopped with Citibank debit-cum-ATM card at Shoppers' Stop. The offer is valid only in Delhi, till February 20, 2001. VSNet was offering 50 per cent discount on the purchase of the Internet Regular Package. This offer is valid in Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Coimbatore, Ernakulam and Jalandhar till February 28, 2001.

SBI Card had the Special 500,000 celebratory offer to woo customers. On applying for an SBI Card, no joining fee (of Rs. 250) was charged. The annual fee was Rs 500 and the offer is valid till February 15, 2001. SOTC was giving five free holidays abroad, one every year for the next five years. This offer could have been availed on booking any of the SOTC World Famous Tours this summer. This offer was open for the first 1,000 customers.

Cox & Kings in the Travel Club redemption offer was giving a chance to save $ 250 and with it the customer got $ 150 every year for the next three years. This offer could be availed on booking any Cox & Kings Europe holiday. This promo was valid for the first 1,000 customers only.

Among garments and lifestyle products, Woodland was giving up to 50 per cent off on buying winter apparels. The offer was valid in Bangalore only, till February 2. Benetton was offering a 50 per cent discount on select items. The promo was valid in Delhi and Noida. With the purchase of every two Arrow shirts the consumer was given an Arrow classics shirt free. The offer was valid in Delhi. Bombay Dyeing was giving a 15 per cent off on Bombay Dyeing garments. This offer was valid in Mumbai and Delhi for limited period only.

Among household products and durables companies, Brisk was giving a 200 gm pack of Henko Stain Champion worth Rs 16 free with a 500 ml Brisk Floor Cleaner. The offer was valid till stocks lasted. On the purchase of an SSF coir mattress, the company was giving a Prestige wall clock free. This offer was valid in Kolkata. Godrej, in its Number One offer, gave up to Rs 1,111 off on a Godrej storewel. The offer is valid till February 28, 2001. Duracell, in a special offer, gave Rs 20 off on buying a Duracell battery pack. This offer was valid till stocks lasted

In personal care products, Spirit of Man had a spirited offer. With the purchase of a 70 ml pack of Spirit of Man shaving cream the buyer was given a free 25 ml Spirit of Man after shave lotion. This offer was valid in Kolkata only, till stocks lasted.

Among other interesting offers, there was Rs 3,000 off on the Suzuki Samurai bike. This promo was valid in Kolkata for a limited period only. In another offer, Philips was giving a Rs 2001 off on select models of Philips music systems. This offer was valid only in Bangalore. In the X-Change Dhamaka, Super was giving Rs 800 off if one exchanged an old gas stove for a new Super 4 burner LPG stove. This offer was valid in Bangalore only. On the purchase of Back-UPS AVR 500, one got free unlimited Internet time for 30 days from Satyam Online.
