Umbrella's Ramnathkar invited to judge Chili Awards

Chili Awards, Sri Lanka’s advertising awards ceremony, takes off on May 12. Umbrella’s Bhupal Ramnathkar will be one of the jury members

Bhupal Ramnathkar, founder of Umbrella, joins that select group of Indian advertising professionals invited to judge international award events. Ramnathkar has been appointed chairperson of the jury for ‘Campaign of the Year’ at the Chili awards, which will be held in Sri Lanka on May 12. He will also be part of the jury for Print and Integrated Campaigns at the awards this year.

The Chili Awards are to Sri Lanka what the Abbys are to India. The judging process for the Print and Integrated Campaigns category begins on May 7.

Ramnathkar’s fellow jurymen include Alex Lim, partner and consultant of Refuel Network, Malaysia; Morihiko Hasebe, senior creative director, Hakuhodo Inc., Japan; Farrokh Maddon, executive creative director of BBDO, Singapore; Paul Hodgkinson, senior writer of Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy, London; Subhash Pinnapola, creative director, Leo Burnett Solutions, Sri Lanka; and Udaya Tennekoon, executive creative director, Lowe LDB, Sri Lanka.

Says Ramnathkar, “Awards hold importance for everyone. But in Sri Lanka, the Chili Awards are the Mecca of advertising recognition. What the Abbys are to India, Chili is to Sri Lanka. It feels nice to be made a chairperson of a jury along with other international judges.”

Umbrella also had the distinguished honour of winning a silver for its TV commercial on the Ganesh Festival for ‘The Times of India’ and a bronze for ‘Electrician’s Business Card’ at the GoaFest, this year. The latter was also a finalist at this year’s One Show in New York.
