CNN International streams on Reliance mobiles

CNN International will stream live on Reliance’s WAP portal. Cartoon Network’s video clips are also available

CNN International, the news network of Turner International, is now available on the mobile portal of Reliance Communications as a result of an agreement between the two companies. CNN International will stream live on streaming-enabled Reliance phones, the first international channel to do so.

Apart from the live feed from CNN, feature shows like ‘Hollywood Express’ and ‘Talk Asia’ will also be streamed on the Mobile TV service of the portal. Turner will also provide ringtones, wallpapers and video clips from its kids’ channel, Cartoon Network. This includes cartoons like ‘Tom & Jerry’, ‘Scooby Doo’ and ‘Powerpuff Girls’.

The Mobile TV service on Reliance mobiles works by receiving the channel’s feed on a server and then streaming it to mobile phones via the wireless network. This enables the channels to stream ‘live’ on the mobile with a few seconds’ lag, depending on connectivity and the handset.

“For today’s consumer, time is a rare commodity, and with technology swiftly changing the traditional means of news and entertainment consumption, it is imperative to be present on platforms that are easily accessible by our target audience.” said Siddharth Jain, vice-president of distribution and business operations (India and South Asia), Turner International India, in a statement announcing the partnership.

Turner had tied up with Mobile2win in May for the creation of Cartoon Network’s mobile content and a WAP portal for the channel.

Reliance’s last tie-up was with Sun TV, which now streams live on the portal, along with nine other channels, including CNBC-TV 18, Times Now and NDTV.
