Zee Network is taking a serious relook at the Zee News channel. An obvious move with the budget round the corner. A Zee spokesperson told agencyfaqs!, "You will see the results coming in in the next two to three weeks."

The restructuring of Zee News follows the report submitted by the consultancy firm A T Kearney which recently conducted a study on Zee's structure and strategy. A senior official at Zee News said that efforts are on in various directions to revamp the news channel. To begin with, the network plans to give the channel a completely new look. Anchors, graphics, editorial, design - all of it is up for review. According to some reports, Zee is in talks with an American company, Novocom, to design attractive graphics for Zee News.

However, this time round the change is going to me more than skin deep, said the Zee executive. "When we relooked at the channel a year back, we did more of an image overhaul. We changed the logo, the set and the signature tune. This time round it would be more than a cosmetic change."

The main focus of change this time would be the content of the news channel. Zee News is scouting for the best talent in the industry. Even though Zee officials refuse to name people being approached by the channel for jobs, industry sources say that some top media people are being wooed to join Zee News. The new elements on the channel would be highlighted through promos that would be aired on all the 13 channels in the Zee bouquet. Some of the promos are on air already.

The recent move at upgrading the quality of the channel follows the network's decision to turn Zee News into a pay channel. Currently, Zee News and Zee TV are the only two channels in the Zee bouquet that are free-to-air.
