Neeraj Sanan to head marketing at Web18

Sanan will spearhead the monetisation of the company’s 10 websites

Neeraj Sanan has been appointed marketing head at Web18, the online division of TV18, which also runs the channels, CNBC-TV18 and CNN-IBN.

Sanan was earlier working at Dabur India Ltd in the consumer care arm as deputy general manager (marketing). In his various roles at Dabur India, Joyco India and ICI India, Sanan has been involved in understanding consumer behaviour and markets for 11 years. This is his first stint in an online company.

Speaking to agencyfaqs!, Sanan said that his role at Web18 would be to “put business logic into the company’s websites”. He added that his aim was to see the company’s portals take off, but first, they would have to be made more popular. Sanan did not rule out promotional campaigns for the websites, but said that “each website will be treated separately”.

Sanan is also upbeat about digital media, as is evident from his move from an FMCG major. “People don’t mind paying for convenience...Eventually, all products and services will move to online and mobile commerce platforms. Web18 is one of the players in this industry that have got it right.”

Web18, headed by Surya Mantha, has a portfolio of 10 websites, including financial portal MoneyControl.com, news site IBNLive.com and travel site Yatra.in. The company’s last acquisition was in March when it acquired movie ticketing company Bigtree Entertainment and recently launched the online ticketing website, BookMyShow.com.

In the fourth quarter of 2006-07, Web18 posted a growth of 75 per cent in revenues over the previous year.
