His place in India will be taken by Karl Slym, who has held the dual roles of vice-president, quality, GM, Asia Pacific, and vice-president, quality, GM Daewoo Automotive and Technology in South Korea.

Nick Reilly, president, GM, and vice-president, GM Asia-Pacific Group, says, “India is one of GM’s most significant growth markets and Chabha has led the GM team at an important time in our history. He has been an active advocate for developing GM’s presence in the country and overseen significant changes in a relatively short amount of time. Karl, on the other hand, has proven himself in a range of disciplines within GM, which makes him an ideal replacement. He brings his extensive experience to maintain that growth.”

An MBA from IIM and with a background in engineering, Chabha joined GM, India, in 1995 and has worked in the marketing, sales and after-sales departments in his previous capacities. In June 2005, he assumed responsibility as president and managing director, GM, India.

Slym worked with Toyota in the UK prior to joining GM in 1997. At GM, he has held senior manufacturing positions in Gliwice, Poland, and Oshawa, Canada. Prior to joining the Asia-Pacific leadership team, he was appointed president of CAMI Automotive, a joint venture between GM of Canada and Suzuki Motor Corporation in Ingersoll, Canada. He has been at GM, South Korea, since 2006.
