SET acquires rights for five Yash Raj films

The line-up from Yash Raj Films includes ‘Chak De! India’, ‘Ta Ra Rum Pum’, ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’, the recently released ‘Laaga Chunari Main Daag’ and Madhuri Dixit’s much anticipated comeback film, ‘Aaja Nachle’

Sony Entertainment Television (SET) has hit a goldmine by acquiring the exclusive world satellite rights of five blockbuster movies from India’s premier movie banner, Yash Raj Films. The line-up includes ‘Chak De! India’, ‘Ta Ra Rum Pum’, ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’, the recently released ‘Laaga Chunari Main Daag’ and Madhuri Dixit’s much anticipated comeback film, ‘Aaja Nachle’.

Commenting on the acquisition, Kunal Dasgupta, CEO, SET India, says, “Yash Raj Films has been on the forefront of the Indian entertainment industry for the last five decades. These acquisitions underline the fact that we believe in bringing only the biggest and the best of entertainment to our viewers. This also reaffirms the strong relationship we share with eminent producer-director Yash Chopra since well over a decade. We are proud that the association continues on and here’s hoping for many more!”

Yash Chopra says, “I have shared an excellent relationship with SET over the last 11 years and, in continuation of that association, we have finalised this five-film deal with SET.”

‘Chak De! India’ has been the year’s biggest blockbuster and left a powerful impact on many lives. It’s a straightforward and hard-hitting film that took the national game of hockey and its players to a higher level of recognition. Today, however, ‘Chak De!’ has become a slogan, not just for hockey, but any sport in which India excels. Riding high on its recent achievement of the Best Film Award at the 5th Australian Indian Film Festival in Sydney, the movie has already achieved cult status amongst the nation’s youth.
