Yahoo to power search on mobile portals of BSNL, BPL and Aircel

Yahoo OneSearch will available on the mobile portals of BSNL, BPL Mobile and Aircel

Yahoo! announced

more Indian partners for its mobile search service, OneSearch, at the Mobile Asia Congress in Hong Kong. Yahoo! will empower search services on the mobile portals of three Indian operators, BSNL, BPL Mobile and Aircel, through OneSearch.

As part of the deal, mobile subscribers of BSNL, BPL Mobile and Aircel with GPRS-enabled phones will be able to search for news, financial information, weather conditions, Flickr photos, Yahoo! Answers and mobile websites. Apart from mobile search, BSNL subscribers will also have access to Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger as part of this deal.

Earlier, Yahoo! announced a tie-up with Idea Cellular to provide its search service to Idea subscribers with a customised mobile portal on Idea's WAP portal.

David Ko, vice-president and GM, Yahoo! Connected Life, said in a statement, "Yahoo's new partnership with BSNL, BPL and Maxis Aircel furthers our leadership in mobile and demonstrates our commitment to working to enhance the mobile Internet experience by delivering relevant information and instant answers to customers on their mobile devices."

Yahoo! OneSearch is a mobile specific search service, based on GPRS, which was launched in May 2007. The service is also available on SMS through short codes.
