Zee News videos to go online on BBC Motion Gallery

Programming from the news channel will be available for download from BBC’s video footage website at a cost

Zee News, the Hindi news channel, has tied up with BBC Worldwide to make its programmes available on BBC Motion Gallery (www.bbcmotiongallery.com), a website that provides high quality video content for download at a cost.

This is the first Indian news channel that BBC Motion Gallery has added to its portfolio as it marks its entry into the Indian market, a Zee News spokesperson told agencyfaqs!.

As part of the three-year deal, Zee News will make all its programmes available to BBC for upload on the site. These programmes will be then available for download, depending on the demands of the surfers.

The spokesperson added that as per the deal, Zee News will remain the only Indian news channel in the portfolio. The revenue sharing arrangement between the two means that Zee News will receive an undisclosed share of the sale of video footage on the site.

“Worldwide, Zee News is viewed as a responsible and serious news channel. It’s little wonder that Zee News Ltd is the only news and current affairs media company in India from whom BBC will source content for its prestigious Motion Gallery website,” Barun Das, chief executive officer of Zee News, said in a statement.

The BBC Motion Gallery provides royalty free video clips and rights managed footage in the form of TV programming, short films, mobile content and so on. The site is accessed by documentary film makers, advertising agencies and production houses from around the world.
