Bhawana Somaaya joins Swastik Pictures

Bhawana & #BANNER1 & # Somaaya has joined Swastik Pictures as head of new business development and creative consultant. She has more than two decades of film journalism experience and was editor of Screen, the film weekly of the Indian Express Group. Swastik Pictures are the makers of TV show Amber Dhara, which airs on Sony Entertainment Television.

Somaaya's new responsibilities include ideating on storylines and developing concepts for Swastik Pictures' projects.

Commenting on her move, Somaaya says, "It was my conscious decision to explore a new medium and take it as a challenge to discover my potential to the fullest. It is very fulfilling to work with a young team of professionals led by the dynamic producer duo of Swastik Pictures, Vikas Seth and Siddharth Kumar. They all are full of ideas. My intention is to give a new vision to the projects they have in mind and streamline them."

Somaaya has been associated with magazines such as Super, Movie and Chitralekha. She won the 1990 Mahila Shiromani Award and has won other prominent titles over the years.

She has written five books: Amitabh Bachchan - The Legend, published by Macmillan; Salaam Bollywood, published by Spantech and Lancer, London; Take-25, published by Sambhav Publishers; The Story So Far, published by the Indian Express Group; and Cinema: Images and Issues, published by Rupa & Co.

Vikas Seth, managing partner, Swastik Pictures, says, "Amber Dhara on Sony Entertainment Television is our first serial and it helped us gain recognition, both from the industry and the audience. We have many more projects in the pipeline. With Bhawanaji's expert guidance, we will further expand our portfolio by delivering clutter breaking content across genres."
