Rajasekharan to head marketing at Galaxy Entertainment

After Shashi Kalathil, ex-CEO of Neo Sports, moved to Galaxy Entertainment, another member from Neo Sports has joined Galaxy

Ranjith Rajasekharan, who was head of marketing at Nimbus Communications’ Neo Sports, has joined Galaxy Entertainment Corp., as head of marketing and strategy for the leisure and entertainment sector.

Earlier this year, Shashi Kalathil moved in as chief operating officer of Galaxy Entertainment Corp. Kalathil, too, was with Neo Sports prior to his move – as chief executive officer.

“This was a much better opportunity and offered larger scope,” says Rajasekharan of his move. As head of marketing and strategy, he will be responsible for launching the many initiatives that the company has scheduled in the luxury and entertainment sector. Rajasekharan did not comment on any of these initiatives, saying it was too early yet to talk about it.

Previously, Rajasekharan was in the advertising sector as an account executive with JWT. He spent three years there before he moved to Ten Sports in 2002 as head of marketing and communication. Later, he was with MTV as associate director for marketing and headed the brand, consumer, trade and network and licensing and merchandising marketing functions for MTV. His key assignments at MTV included shepherding the brand architecture and long term road map for Brand MTV.

In 2006, Rajasekharan joined Neo Sports as vice-president, marketing. He played a crucial role in launching Ten Sports, VH1 and Neo Sports.

“I have been part of media marketing for six years now. I wanted to get into a much broader role, but in the marketing field itself,” says Rajasekharan. He will also be heading Future Consumer Products (FCPL) as head of marketing.

A Future Group venture, Galaxy Entertainment Corp. operates franchises for The Bowling Co., Sports Bar, Brew Bar and F 123. The Future Group has a joint venture in the fitness and wellness space with Talwarkar’s, India’s pioneering fitness chain, and has announced another JV with cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

FCPL is the division of the group which creates a line of products that will find visibility in the retail sector within the group format and then move onto other retail formats.
