Kartik Iyer joins Carat India as managing director

Kartik Iyer will take over from PV Narayanmoorthy, who has now been put in charge of planning, importing global tools and processes into India, and training

Kartik Iyer is all set to join Carat India as its managing director. He will take over from PV Narayanmoorthy, who was functioning as Carat’s MD till now.

“Narayanmoorthy will be in charge of planning, importing global tools and processes into India (and adapting them to this market), and training. His designation and other details about his new role will be announced soon,” says Ashish Bhasin, chairman, India, and chief executive officer, Southeast Asia, Aegis Media.

In an official communiqué, Bhasin says, “A seasoned professional like Kartik Iyer joining us is the first step towards strengthening Carat India. He has vast experience in running large media companies.” Bhasin says he hopes Iyer’s appointment will turn things around for Carat in India and help the agency match up to its global peers. Aegis Media hopes to launch its other brands, Posterscope, Isobar and Vizeum, in India in due course.

Iyer’s immediate previous stint was at Active International, the corporate trading company which he helped launch in India around a year and a half ago. He was director, media services, and in charge of the entire media product there. Iyer, a management graduate from IMT Ghaziabad, has 17 years of industry experience, including a long stint at Lintas India, where he was president of Initiative Media, handling several large brands and managing Initiative Media nationally.

Iyer tells afaqs!, “I think Carat is a strong media product. While I agree that it may not be quite out there in the marketplace, it certainly deserves to be there and will be.”

On Narayanmoorthy’s new responsibilities, Bhasin says, “Moorthy has done well for Carat India and now, in deference to his professional desires and strengths, we look forward to him driving product quality for our group.”
