Publications were high on promos. Hindustan Times through the ‘HT Read & Sing Contest' was giving its readers the chance to own a Sansui Home Theatre every day and win two free tickets to Scandinavia via SAS every fortnight. All that the readers had to do was complete the offer coupon and mail it to Hindustan Times. This scheme is valid in Delhi and the NCR till May 1, 2001. HT City roped in people with a weakness for the Tambola with the opportunity to win fabulous prizes. These included two trips to Dubai, 200 dry irons, 50 accessory sets, 50 cordless kettles and more. The Tambola enthusiasts could take part in the contest through the Tambola coupons. This promo is valid in Delhi and the NCR.

Last week, The Times of India was giving a wonderful opportunity to win a free holiday at Richard Branson's private island. All one needed to do was fill in the contest form in Sunday Review. On buying the Filmfare March issue, the buyer got a free sample of New Pears Oil-Clear bathing bar. This offer is valid in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Baroda, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Secunderabad and the states of Assam, Bihar, Goa, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and all states of Northern India. This limited stock offer is valid in Mumbai and Bangalore only. In the other offer, on buying a Sony DB Handycam, the consumer got a Studio DV editing software worth Rs 10,000 free. Orient PSPO in the ‘Gold Rush Hungama' was guarantying a prize with every purchase of Orient PSPO fans. The bumper prize was one kg of gold. The other prizes included more than 9,000 gold coins, cash prizes and lakhs of other exciting prizes. This offer is only in Delhi till May 31, 2001

With a Usha fan, the buyer got a free imported camera. This limited period offer is valid in Delhi only. On exchanging an old mixer-grinder for a new Kenstar, the consumer got a discount of up to Rs 600. This scheme is valid in Bangalore only. Through the ‘Futura Exchange' offer, the customer had the chance to claim a waiver of up to Rs 500 on exchanging an old gas stove for a new Futura gas stove. This promo is valid in Bangalore only. On exchanging an old gas stove for a new BPL gas table, the customer got a discount of up to Rs 450. This scheme is valid in Mumbai only.

Nippo through the 'They Play You Win' Contest, was giving consumers a chance to win exciting prizes. The prizes included Santro LE, Suzuki Fiero bikes, Ericsson 2618 mobile handsets and more. To claim the prizes, the buyer had to buy four Nippo pencil cells and send the wrapper with a slogan and answers to the three questions asked. This offer is valid till April 15, 2001.

With the onset of summers, food and beverages marketers were ready with their share of freebies. Dairy Den Yums was tempting customers with mouth-watering offers. To claim the prizes, the buyers had to scratch the card available with the purchase of two Yums soft serve ice creams. The 60,000 prizes included a Maruti 800, colour televisions, gold-plated watches, calculators, T-shirts, puzzle books and school bags. This promotion is valid in Gujarat till April 23, 2001. In ‘The great Navratra' offer by Pizza Hut, the buyer was getting a pizza free. To claim the free pizza, the buyer had to order any of the Supremes Pizza (vegetarian) and present a cutting of the offer ad. This offer is in Delhi till April 3, 2001.

Through the ‘Limca Dhan-a-Dhan' offer, the company was luring people with sparkling prizes. The prizes included 60 prizes of 1-gm gold, 157 prizes of 5-gm gold, 87 prizes of 10-gm gold, three prizes of 20-gm gold and many more. To try out one's luck, one had to buy a Limca 300-ml bottle. This offer is valid in select cities only till April 15, 2001.

The personal care products market was dull in terms of promotional activities. On the purchase of every 50-ml. Musk after-shave lotion worth Rs 79, the buyer got a 100-gm bar of Musk Soap worth Rs 20 free. This limited stock offer is valid in Delhi only. On buying Vatika 300-ml hair oil, the buyer got a bottle of Vatika Shampoo worth Rs 21 free. In a similar offer, on buying a 150-ml bottle of Vatika hair oil, the buyer got a Binaca Top toothbrush worth Rs 11 free. This limited stock offer is valid in West Bengal only. On buying a Nivea Body Pure Talc of 400-gm or a Nivea for Men Body Talc of 300-gm, the consumer got a Nivea Creme Soap of 100-gm free. This limited stock offer is valid in Delhi and Kolkata.

The automotive marketers had just two offers last week. Through the ‘CBZ fully loaded' offer Hero Honda was trying to draw the attention of bike riders with lucrative offers. On buying Hero Honda CBZ, the customer got a cool tote bag, a custom designed carry-box, a specially treated polyester cover and a hot pair of gloves - all for free. This offer is valid in Delhi and Tamil Nadu till April 30, 2001. On buying a TVS Scooty, the consumer got a discount of Rs 1,250. This limited period offer is valid in Ahmedabad only.

The lone offer from the service industry last week was Thomas Cook's ‘Bolero Bumper Contest'. The company was a giving a chance to travellers to win a lot of exciting prizes. The bumper prize was a Mahindra Bolero. The on-the-spot prizes included 10 TCL colour television sets, 10 TCL mobile phones, 25 Aiwa walkmans, 100 Internet connections and more.
