Maruti charts new route

Maruti Udyog and IGNOU have come together to launch Vidyavahini, a new initiative in distance learning and technical education.

NEW DELHI, July 12

Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) and the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) have come together to launch Vidyavahini, a new initiative in distance learning and technical education. The two partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect in New Delhi on July 11. According to the terms of the MoU, MUL will assist IGNOU in creating social and educational programmes for Gyan Darshan, the public service television channel run by IGNOU in association with Doordarshan.

Maruti will also utilise IGNOU's Training and Development Communication Channel (TDCC) for disseminating specific training to select audiences. Maruti will help IGNOU create films to address issues of traffic management, driving training, education on the advantage of using genuine spares.

Maruti plans to harness the potential of the TDCC for distance training and imparting information to its sales and service outlets, its vendors and other associates. Besides creating specific learning modules for its own network, Maruti will also be providing assistance to IGNOU in creating content for educational programmes on automobile service training for auto mechanics.

To add value to the entire training process, IGNOU, with inputs from Maruti, will also move towards offering a certificate course through the distance learning mode. Maruti will develop training modules for personnel at its over 1,700 sales and service outlets and for its vendors and other associates spread across India.
