V Madhusudan moves out of Maa TV

Madhusudan has 28 years of experience in media and has worked with some established names in print and television, heading sales and marketing functions

V Madhusudan, senior vice-president, marketing and sales, and head, new business initiatives, Maa TV, the Telugu general entertainment channel, has put in his papers. He is yet to decide on his next destination and says he is still weighing the various opportunities that are on offer.

Madhusudan joined Maa TV in April 2005. He has 28 years of experience in media and has worked with some established names in print and television, heading sales and marketing functions.

Speaking to afaqs!, Madhusudan says, “I count my stay at Maa TV on the same platform as some of my most memorable stints earlier with, say, India Today or Sony. In 2005, Maa TV was an organisation with a turnover of Rs 15-20 crore. Today, it has a turnover of more than Rs 90 crore.”

He adds, “During my stay, I have seen many organisational changes related to ownership and the entry and exit of the company's board members and other senior executives. Contributing to the growth of the organisation through such troubled times is something in which I take immense pride.”

Before he joined Maa TV, Madhusudan was vice-president, sales, South, SAB TV. He was with that channel from 2003 till 2005. He has also handled sales and marketing functions at Sony (1995-98). Besides the two Hindi GECs, Madhusudan has worked for the regional media, too. During his stint with i2i media, he got the opportunity to work for the launch of its Marathi channel, Prabhat, and the Kannada channel, Suprabhatha.

In addition to the electronic media, Madhusudan has dabbled in print as well. He was with Living Media for six years and with Dalal Street Journal for three years, based in Delhi for both.

Having worked in both electronic and print media, which medium does he prefer? Madhusudan says, “I started my career in advertising and gradually crossed over to media. In a career spanning 28 years, my core area of operation has always been sales and marketing and I have enjoyed performing this task equally for both the print and electronic media.”
