IPL moves out of India; Court judgment on BCCI-MSM feud still awaited

The court hearing will be held at 3 pm today

IPL has turned out to be the other name of uncertainty. Last season, the tournament was organised in a very short duration. But this year, no plans seems to be final starting from venue to the broadcaster – that too when the tournament is less than 20 days away from commencement.

It has now been decided that IPL venue will be shifted to international grounds – most likely to England and South Africa. The tournament, however, will follow the old schedule.

Due to the General Elections around the same time as IPL, the Government reasoned that the security for the matches will prove inadequate. Despite working out numerous schedules, a consensus could not be reached and finally BCCI announced that the matches will be held out of India.

On the other hand, the tussle between BCCI and Multi Screen Media (Sony) doesn’t seem to end. What seemed like a happy ending on Thursday, after their decision to arrive at an out-of-court settlement, was far from happy, with the BCCI not willing to agree to a clause.

While most contents in the agreement, that the two parties were to sign on Thursday to end the cold war, were acceptable to both, BCCI refused to agree to the non-terminable clause, which meant that under no circumstances, can BCCI terminate the agreement with MSM.

In all likelihood, the settlement will now happen in Bombay High Court. The judgment is is expected today. However, a source close to the development has told afaqs! that the talks are still on between the two parties for an out-of-court settlement.

Interestingly, IPL’s official website, still states that SET Max is the official broadcaster of DLF IPL. While, SET Max had been promoting the tournament by displaying a countdown along with the channel’s logo, until Sunday.
