Bhaskar group has appointed Raja Mitra as senior general manager and business head for South India. Mitra comes in from ABP Group, where he was head of South India.

Raja will be responsible for enhancing Group’s ad sales revenue and growth in Southern India. He will also be responsible for completing composite deals with advertisers, which include not only the Hindi and Gujarati publications – Dainik Bhaskar and Divya Bhaskar respectively, but the group's radio venture MyFM and English daily, DNA as well.

Mitra will be based in Bengaluru and report to Rajiv Jaitly, president, ad sales and marketing, DB Corp.

He had joined ABP in 2004. At Bhaskar, he replaces SN Chaterjee. Chaterjee's next move could not be ascertained.

Speaking on his movement to Bhaskar, Mitra tells afaqs!, “Bhaskar’s aggressive approach amongst the media groups in the recent years, which includes exploring new territories and venturing into other forms of media, other than publication brought me here. My primary responsibility will be to strengthen the group's presence in South India.”

With the markets shifting towards tier-II and tier-III cities, Jaitly feels that Mitra would be an asset to the group. “South India presents great opportunities for the brand and we are confident that with Raja’s knowledge and expertise in the southern region, we will further strengthen our position.”

Mitra has a more than 16 years experience in marketing with media and non-media companies. Prior to ABP, Mitra was senior vice-president at Caltiger.com. He's also been Usha Martin Industries and ITW Signode India. He started his career with Larsen & Toubro Ltd. after completing his PGDM from IIM Bangalore.
