NDTV dabbles in content with RedDot Productions

The independent production house will create content not only for NDTV’s channels, but also for other channels

NDTV has launched an independent production house, RedDot Productions. The production house will create and design content for television and interactive media.

The production house will offer corporate films, documentaries, advertiser-driven audio-visuals and media consultancy. It will experiment with various genres of television programming, with content related to travel, lifestyle, reality and youth oriented shows.

In an official communiqué, Prannoy Roy, chairman, NDTV Group, says, “RedDot Productions aims to lead the country with some path-breaking shows. The idea is to set new standards, by bringing world class production qualities to India. Our production house will not only provide content to NDTV channels, but it will produce shows for other non-NDTV channels as well.”

The new entity will be spearheaded by Richa Sahai, who has been appointed as the creative head. Along with her core team, Sahai has, in the past, worked not only with NDTV, but for other organizations as well, such as Discovery Travel and Living, BBC, ESPN, STAR Plus, Sony, Pogo, Zoom and Doordarshan.

Different team members of the production house have been part of shows such as Good Morning India, Galli Galli Sim Sim, Gustakhi Maaf, Ji Mantriji and Indian Idol.

Richa Sahai, creative head, RedDot Productions, says, “The idea is to take up variety of work and do only quality stuff. We are not going to add to the existing clutter of players by producing soaps for the general entertainment channels. So, for the first two quarters, our focus will be documentaries and reality shows, rather than fiction.”

Sahai shares that they are already in talks with several corporates, educational institutes and government agencies. The services of the production house will be competitively priced, to ensure that it does not miss out on meaningful projects merely on account of high prices.
