GEC Watch: STAR Plus inches ahead of Colors

STAR Plus, with four shows and a Hindi film featuring in the Top 10 programmes, leads the GEC space in Week 20, with a channel share of 23 per cent

In Week 19, there were no clear winners in the GEC space, as both STAR Plus and Colors shared the top honours, with channel shares of 22 per cent each. The No 3 player, Zee TV, was closing in with a relative channel share of 21 per cent.

However, Week 20 has reiterated STAR Plus’ hegemony. As per the latest TAM report for C&S 4+, HSM audiences, STAR Plus leads the battle with a relative channel share of 23 per cent. The channel has garnered 258 GRPs this week, which is 10 GRPs more than Week 19.

Colors, which was at par with Star Plus in the previous week with 248 GRPs, has lost 4 GRPs and has a channel share of 22 per cent.

Zee TV is at No 3 this week too. However, its GRPs have come down from 236 in Week 19 to 213 in Week 20. Thus, Zee’s relative channel share has also declined to 19 per cent in the current week.

NDTV Imagine is the No 4 player with 92 GRPs, in comparison to 83 GRPs in Week 19. It has grabbed a relative channel share of 8 per cent. Sony, with 70 GRPs -- three less than in Week 19 -- is at No 5, and has a channel share of 6 per cent.

With 62 GRPs and a channel share of 6 per cent, STAR One is at No 6. It is followed by SAB, with a channel share of 4 per cent. The channel has managed 50 GRPs in Week 20, which is 4 GRPs less than in the previous week.

Sahara One has maintained its channel share of 4 per cent and has garnered 43 GRPs. Four channels, namely 9X, DD 1, STAR Utsav and Real, have all managed an identical channel share of 2 per cent each.

9X and DD 1 have 25 and 24 GRPs, respectively; while STAR Utsav and Real have 21 and 18 GRPs, respectively.

As was the case in Week 19, this week too, two shows on STAR Plus head the list of Top 10 programmes on Hindi GECs. Bidaai, with 6.73 TVR, and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, with 5.41 TVR, continue at No 1 and No 2, respectively.

At No 3 on the list is Colors’ Balika Vadhu, with a TVR of 4.78. Chhoti Bahu on Zee TV is at No 4, with a TVR of 4.47.

The other shows on the Top 10 list are: Uttaran, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil, Sab Ki Laadli Bebo, Hindi movie, Chandni Chowk to China (which was telecast on STAR Plus) and Jai Shri Krishna.
