Aim to take gross GRP to 4 per cent: MK Anand, CEO, UTV Broadcast

Anand has spent the 19 years of his career at Bennett, Coleman & Co. and has now moved to another media group

MK Anand is now chief executive officer, UTV Global Broadcasting (entertainment channels). Last month, Anand quit as business head of Zoom Entertainment Network and, as reported by afaqs!, was touted to be joining UTV.

Recently, UTV promoted Heather Gupta as channel head for both UTV Bindass and UTV Movies.

Aim to take gross GRP to 4 per cent: MK Anand, CEO, UTV Broadcast
Anand began his career in 1990 at Times Classifieds (of Bennett, Coleman & Co.). After a few years, he moved to the Times Response cell and later to display ad sales. He was here for three years out of the 14 years with the group, before moving to Zoom (a channel under the Bennett, Coleman & Co. stable).

Five years ago, Anand joined Zoom in the ad sales department, before the official launch of the channel and has worked on every aspect of the channel, including its blueprint, content, technology and revenue streams.

Topmost on his list of priorities, says Anand on his third day at UTV, is to convert UTV's gross GRP to 4 per cent of the Indian market share and take the UTV Group to the No. 5 position from the current No. 6 in the next six months. The gross GRP across UTV channels is 2.5 per cent of the Indian market share, says Anand.

In an official communiqué, he says, "With the recession behind us, the broadcast business is seeing an all new scale and is emerging as a very fast growing segment." Also, UTV has shown considerable growth in terms of revenue in the past four-five months, he shares.

Anand will also start off with the product configuration and branding of all channels under the UTV bouquet. He adds that changes will be made where necessary in terms of how the channel is positioned.
