GEC Watch: Status quo among top three channels

In Week 52, as per TAM data, Sony has lost channel share, while Imagine has gained

Here's the latest on the rankings of the general entertainment genre, as the year draws to a close. As per Week 52 data by TAM Media Research, Colors is the No. 1 channel, with a 22 per cent (C&S, 4+, HSM) share of the overall GEC pie. It has garnered 313 GRPs in the last week of 2009.

STAR Plus is the No. 2 GEC, with a share of 20 per cent. The channel has garnered 279 GRPs, the same as last week. At No. 3, Zee TV, too, has maintained its share and GRPs. It has a relative share of 19 per cent, recording 270 GRPs in Week 52.

Sony's share has declined from 13 per cent in Week 51 to 12 per cent in Week 52. At No. 4, Sony has recorded 171 GRPs. DD1 and NDTV Imagine are at par, with a relative share of 7 per cent each. The GRPs garnered by the two are 100 and 95, respectively.

SAB, at No. 6, has seen a slight decline. From 83 GRPs last week, the channel has recorded 76 in Week 52. Its relative share stands at 5 per cent. STAR One and Sahara One follow with 3 and 2 per cent share, respectively. STAR Utsav and 9X have managed to get 1 per cent share each.

On the list of most watched programmes, Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV is once again at No. 1, garnering a high TVR of 6.6. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai follows closely at No. 2, with a TVR of 6.3.

Uttaran and Balika Vadhu on Colors have both garnered TVRs of 5.8 in Week 52 and share the No. 3 slot. Bidaai on STAR Plus follows, with a TVR of 5.

The other programmes that have made it to the year's last Top 10 list are: Na Aana Is Des Laado, Chhoti Bahu, Dance India Dance season 2 and Sab Ki Laadli Bebo.
