The Nielsen Company appoints vice-president for Mumbai

Amit Adarkar comes from Market Probe, where he was managing director

Amit Adarkar recently joined Nielsen BASES as vice-president. He will be based in Mumbai and will report to Prasun Basu, vice-president, Nielsen BASES, South Asia, Middle East and Africa and executive director, consumer research, South Asia, The Nielsen Company.

Adarkar comes with 17 years of rich and varied experience in research that spans FMCG, services and high-end manufacturing industries. Prior to joining Nielsen, he was managing director, India and Middle East operations, Market Probe. Earlier, he was head of the Mumbai office of Synovate and played regional client service lead roles for Unilever and Coke.

Adarkar started his career with IMRB and happens to be one of Nielsen's experienced hands, with previous stints at both ORG-MARG and ACNielsen.

Adarkar will provide leadership to the Nielsen BASES India and South Africa businesses and will play an important regional role for Unilever, managing large Unilever hubs in Mumbai and Johannesburg. Adarkar is a chemical engineer from IIT Bombay and holds a management degree from XLRI, Jamshedpur.

Incidentally, Piyush Mathur was promoted as managing director, South Asia market recently. Mathur, too, is based in Mumbai.
