Facebook initiates hiring process in India

Social media site, Facebook.com, which has set up its first base in Asia at Hyderabad (India), has initiated its hiring process. To begin with, the social media giant has roped in Kirthiga Reddy as director of online operations and Manoj Varghese as director of user operations. Both will be based in Hyderabad.

The site has more than 8 million active users in India.

Reddy has about 14 years of work experience. Prior to joining Facebook.com, she was vice-president and general manager, and headed the India operations of US-based Phoenix Technologies, a software development firm. Before that, she was employed with Motorola as director with Good Technology Group (Motorola's mobility solution provider) during 2008-09; and as director, product management during 2006-08. She holds an MS in computer engineering from Syracuse University, New York and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, California.

Varghese's last engagement was with Google, as director, people operations, where he was responsible for human resource (HR) and staffing function for Japan and Asia Pacific regions. Prior to Google, he led the HR function for Dell International Services' Hyderabad office, and managed staffing for Dell India. He has also worked with Infosys Technologies and Maruti Suzuki.

In an official communiqué, Don Faul, director, global online operations, Facebook, says, "We have spent the past few months searching globally for a strong candidate, capable of leading Facebook's ambitious operations in India. Reddy's deep experience in technology, business savvy and respected success leading teams make her a perfect match for this role. Varghese comes with a proven record of creating dynamic operations teams. We are confident the people he brings to Facebook will be excellent liaisons between the company and Facebook's incredibly diverse user base."
