The Kochi IPL (Indian Premier League) franchise, which will soon finalise its name and logo, has appointed the Mumbai-based digital agency Windchimes Communications for social media marketing.
The IPL team is already active on Facebook at Facebook.com/OfficialKochiIPL. The Facebook presence will also be used to run contests and push the sales of team merchandise.
The agency also plans to develop and distribute special videos -- exclusively on social media -- related to the team's coach and players on YouTube.
"Cricket is not a mere sport in this country, it is a religion. In the recent past, the worshipping grounds for this religion have moved to the hallowed portals of social networking sites. It makes sense for us to be where the cricket crazy fans are -- online," says Saket Mehta of Kochi Cricket in an e-mail response on the appointment of the agency.
