GEC Watch: Star Plus stays on top, despite loss of 19 GRPs

Star Plus, the flagship Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) from the STAR stable, continues to lead the category, despite losing 19 points for the week ended April 23 (TAM, C&S 4+, HSM).

Second-in-command Colors added 9 points to its kitty to end the week with 227 GRPs, while its channel share has moved up from 18.1 per cent, to 19.2 per cent.

While for Star Plus, it's the weekday primetime that witnessed the downward slip, for Colors, the upswing has been propelled by its weekend movie line-up.

The channel had shown Tees Maar Khan twice on Saturday. While the first airing was at 1 pm, the second telecast took place at 6:30 pm.

At No. 3, Zee TV is at 193 GRPs, after losing 4 points over the previous week. Its relative share saw a very minor fall. It declined from 16.4 per cent in Week 16, to 16.3 per cent in Week 17.

The channel's weekend movie line-up could not pull in much benefit as it witnessed a loss of about 12 points over the previous week.

Meanwhile, the No. 4 GEC, Sony, has witnessed a one-point fall from 146 GRPs to 145 GRPs. Its relative share has however increased from 12.2 per cent, to 12.3 per cent in Week 17.

Sibling channel SAB, at the fifth position, has scored 139 GRPs in Week 17. Its relative channel share is 11.7 per cent for the week, up from 11.7 per cent during the same period.

At No. 6, Imagine TV lost 7 GRPs during the week to score 61 GRPs. Its relative share has also dropped from 5.6 per cent to 5.1 per cent. STAR One, with 36 GRPs and a channel share of 3 per cent, follows it.

STAR Utsav is at No. 8. The channel's relative share and GRPs have dipped marginally to 2.9 per cent (3 per cent in the previous week) and 34 GRPs (37 GRPs in the previous week), respectively.

Sahara One and DD1 have garnered relative shares of 2.5 per cent and 1.4 per cent, respectively.

Pavitra Rishta (Zee TV) leads the list of the 10 most-watched programmes, clocking a TVR of 4.85, followed by Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Star Plus) and Uttaran (Colors) with TVRs of 4.68 and 4.34, respectively.

The fourth most-watched programme is Pratigya, with 4.24 TVR. Saathiya Saath Nibhana (4.21 TVR) and Na Aana Is Des Laado (3.97 TVR) follow next. Balika Vadhu, Sasural Genda Phool, Yahan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli and Ram Milayi Jodi are also a part of the Top 10 list.
