Maruti most-searched car brand on Google

Google claims that 'auto' is now the fastest-growing search vertical on the search engine as compared to other key verticals like consumer electronics, finance and travel.

In a recently-released report on the search volume on auto industry, Google has revealed that Maruti is the most searched car brand on Google.co.in between January 2010 and May 2011.

Honda was the second most searched car brand during the same period. It was followed by Hyundai, 'General Motors' and Tata Motors, amongst the five most-searched car brands on Google. The search engine giant has declined to share the exact volume of searches received by each of the brands mentioned above.

Among the new car models launched during that period, Alto K10 was the most searched car model. It was followed by Ford Figo, Hyundai i10 - Next Gen, Maruti Kizashi, and Chevrolet Beat as the top five most searched car models during January 2010 to May 2011. Volkswagen Polo and Toyota Etios were the eighth and ninth most searched car models. The report points out that the search data for new car model launches was compiled five weeks prior and five weeks after the launch of a car.

The report further mentions that 'entry and mid-segment' car models (Rs 2 lakh-Rs 6 lakh), was the most-searched car category on Google.co.in. SUVs were the second most searched car category, followed by luxury cars (Rs 15 lakh-Rs 30 lakh) during January 2009 to May 2011. Search volume of SUVs increased by 61 per cent, while a jump of 141 per cent was witnessed in the search volume of luxury cars, from June 2010 to May 2011 over the same period in 2009 to 2010 on Google.co.in.

Apart from searching car models, users leveraged Google to find out information about car finance, car prices and auto spare parts. The report mentions that car finance and auto spare parts queries witnessed a growth of 51 per cent and 26 per cent last year.

Overall, the search volume auto vertical witnessed growth of 110 per cent in 2009, and 84 per cent in 2010 on Google.co.in. During January 2011 to May 2011, the auto search volume grew by 72 per cent over the same period last year.
